Spas on a Budget

There’s no getting away from it – whenever you turn on the television these days, or open a newspaper, the odds are that you will find a doom and gloom story about the state of the economy. There is rising unemployment. We are heading for a double dip. Recovery will be slow. Cuts will be high… on and on it goes. However, these gloomy tales should not prevent people indulging in a few treats to reward themselves for hard work, or to indulge themselves a little on a spa day. As the old adage goes, where there’s a will there’s a way…

Here are a few tips on how to have a spa experience without breaking the bank:

1.  Of course, there are always options to travel to faraway exotic spa resorts to ‘take the waters’. Travelling to foreign climes can also be a tonic as you get away from the associations with work and the stresses of everyday life. However, it is not necessary to pay a fortune for these treats. There are some hidden gems. Have you ever heard of Leukerbad in Switzerland, for example, which caters to a range of budgets while offering beautiful scenery for all. If you check out the comparison websites, you may find some excellent package deals too.

2. You don’t have to travel far afield to experience cheap spa breaks. In the UK, there are a whole host of spa days on offer. For example, in Bath (the original spa city!) the new Thermae Bath Spa has opened and has many reasonably priced packages for spa days and treatments. Surf the net and find appropriate spas near to you.

3. Cheap spa breaks are also available if you acquire spa vouchers. Various magazines run competitions for these vouchers to win discounted spa days. Alternatively, many locations offer spa vouchers as a gift – why not hint to friends and family that you would like spa days (and in particular spa vouchers) as a birthday present this year?

4.  If you don’t feel that you can stretch to visiting a spa, why not create your own ‘home spa’ with friends? There are many excellent home products and spa treatments that you can buy at affordable prices. Invite friends over with their face masks to have a ‘spa evening’ or weekend and plan some additional treats – healthy menus, perhaps, or a bottle of wine and a film.

However you choose to treat yourself, make sure you pamper yourself to feel better.
