Don’t Stay in a Hotel, Stay in a Student Hostel

student hostelIf you’re very adventurous and you don’t want to stay in a hotel because it might be too expensive, then consider staying in a student hostel next time you go on a trip. Don’t be deceived by the name, they aren’t exclusively for students. Anyone can use a student hostel in most cases. There are some things to remember though and some differences to a standard hotel.

The first is that most student hostels will have some sort of a curfew. It’s generally very generous and it has to do with the fact that they are trying to save as much money as possible (which is why they can afford to give cheap rooms in the first place) and don’t have the resources to employ reception staff at all hours of the morning. For this reason, they have a curfew in many places.

On the other hand, you can find hostels that don’t have curfews, especially in many European cities, but the disadvantage to these is that you might have lots of very loud people coming back from a party at 3 in the morning. So the places with the curfew can be very good, because you’re guaranteed a good night’s sleep.

Staying in a hostel is also cheaper because the bathrooms are usually shared and there’s usually several people to a room. Everyone usually has a small safe for themselves with a key to keep their valuables in when they go out, so it’s usually not necessary to worry about your valuables. There are also storage areas for larger items such as suitcases which you may not need every day of your journey.

Student hostels also have communal eating areas and one advantage of these is that they are either very cheap or included in your rooms. So this is another way you can save a lot of money.

Airline Reviews

airportThe internet, low cost airlines, cheap flights and airline reviews have completely changed the way we organize our holidays. Yes…most of us have mastered the art of booking our package holidays, city breaks, last minute deals and just about everything else using the internet. And of course, everyone has heard of low cost airlines. But have you heard of airline reviews?

Airline reviews are a relatively new concept which are also changing the way we organize our holidays. Today, the internet is all about having your say, giving your opinion and getting the best service possible. Many online travel agencies and search and comparison websites offer customers the chance to read product reviews before booking flights, hotels or other travel related products. Why? The answer is quite simply that it makes everything more transparent and it helps you as the user feel more confident about what you are booking.

Let me give you a quick example. After trying a particular service booked using an online travel agency, you can then rate it so that other customers can find out about your experiences. Rate the airport, airline, check in, boarding, the aircraft, luggage handling, stopovers, ground transportation etc. and this feedback will help other customers, like you, decide which airline, hotel or destination best suits them.

Perhaps you are traveling to another continent, for example Europe, and you are unfamiliar with the difference between low cost airlines and standard airlines….maybe you don’t know which airline is which in this foreign land. That is why airline reviews can help you. Reading airline reviews will inform you of the main differences and what service you should expect to receive. It is the best way to avoid holiday disasters.

Travel Tips forTunisia

tunisiaWith its gorgeous white sandy beaches, fascinating culture and natural beauty, Tunisia is the perfect destination for a family holiday, romantic break or fun getaway with friends. And while many of its customs and traditions are very different from our own, it is a tolerant and friendly country where visitors are always welcome. That said, you’re sure to enjoy your holidays to Tunisia more if you make an effort to understand the local customs, so here’s a handy guide that covers everything you need to know before your holiday.

Clothing
While Tunisia’s attitude to clothing is more relaxed than many other Arab countries, women should avoid wearing skimpy clothing outside their hotel. It is also important to cover up when sightseeing, as some religious buildings will limit entry to those who are appropriately dressed.

Alcohol
Despite the availability of alcohol in hotels and tourist areas, it is not widely available and visitors should respect local attitudes to drinking. Stick to the licensed areas and be wary of any public displays of drunkenness.

Eating out
In hotels and resorts, tipping is expected and often forms a large part of the employees’ wages. A tip of about 10% indicates acceptable service, so tip higher if you feel it’s deserved. If you venture out to local restaurants and cafes a tip is not expected but will be appreciated, however be warned: some establishments are strictly men only.

Language
In hotels and resorts, you will find that English is widely spoken and communication shouldn’t be a problem. Even further afield, you’re unlikely to find yourself in a situation where no one speaks English, but if you do try French – next to Arabic it’s the second most widely spoken language in Tunisia. Also, it’s polite to try and learn a few phrases in Arabic – the locals will thank you for your effort.

Shopping
The markets of Tunisia offer plenty of opportunities to pick up a bargain on holiday, but only if you know how to haggle. This method of purchasing is expected but remember to keep all exchanges friendly and not to offend the seller by offering too low a price. In shops and boutiques where goods are labeled with a price tag, haggling is not usually expected.

Introducing easyJet

easyjetMost Europeans have heard of easyJet at some point. It is one of the top low cost airlines in Europe and it was founded in 1995. According to easyJet’s website, the company has changed the way people travel….and this is very true. Traveling with this airline, and many other low cost carriers, is cheap, fast and efficient. It has made traveling as easy as getting on a bus…and almost as cheap.

The message to all Americans, Asians, Australians, Africans or anyone planning to travel within Europe, is that you should check out flights with this airline. Why? The answer is simple….easyJet offers cheap flights for routes all over Europe. It is also important to understand how this airline can offer such great deals so that you know what to expect.

Unlike standard airlines, low cost airlines can offer cheap flights by cutting back on other services. For example, easyJet does not provide complimentary meals, snacks or beverages during the flight. It offers a “buy on board program” so that travelers can purchase something to eat if they wish. Passengers also have to pay for checking in hold luggage on easyJet flights and most low cost airlines do not offer refunds or transfers to later flights. To increase the number of flights per day, low cost airlines have very fast turnaround times. If you want a hassle free, cheap and cheerful service, you should book flights with a low cost airline.

But why choose easyJet above the rest? One of the main reasons is that easyJet flies to major or primary airports, which are normally very near the city center. Other low cost carriers fly to secondary airports in the outskirts. If you are planning a trip to Europe, easyJet is a great excuse to fly off and discover other cities such as Paris, Berlin, Barcelona, Stockholm and many others. Compare airfares online to get the best rates and you could be doing a tour of Europe.
